World Food Day 2026 highlights innovation alongside traditional knowledge
FAO’s 16 October observance focuses on combining new solutions, traditional knowledge and inclusive approaches to improve food systems.
World Food Day is being observed on 16 October, with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization placing innovation and traditional knowledge at the centre of its 2026 campaign.
The theme, “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.”, links new approaches with existing knowledge to improve access to varied, safe and nutritious food while protecting the environment.
More than new technology
FAO’s framing is not limited to sophisticated equipment. It brings innovation together with traditional practices and inclusive approaches, rather than presenting one as a replacement for the other.
For readers in Ghana, it offers a useful question for local reporting: which practical changes help farmers, traders and households reduce waste or make nutritious food more accessible? Those questions require local evidence; the international campaign alone does not establish a change in Ghanaian food prices or hunger levels.
A day for information and action
FAO lists activities linked to World Food Week and encourages participation from communities, schools and organisations. This report does not claim that a particular Ghanaian event has taken place.
