The Western Regional Police Command says the Agona Nkwanta District Police have arrested a man allegedly seen assaulting a woman in a viral video.

According to a police press release dated 13 October 2026, the suspect was arrested at Agona Nkwanta at about 7:00 p.m. on 12 October. Police said he is from Dixcove and is in custody pending his appearance in court.

The release says preliminary investigations indicate that the suspect and the 25-year-old woman live together at Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality. It further states that the woman was allegedly beaten on 8 October after being accused of having an extramarital affair.

Police said the woman was rescued by a passer-by and taken to the Agona Nkwanta Polyclinic, where she was treated and discharged.

The police statement identifies the suspect as Emmanuel Kwofie in its headline, opening paragraph and closing paragraph, but refers to him as John Kwofie in the paragraph describing the preliminary investigation. The identity should be confirmed by the police before publication or further identification. The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
