The Ghana Police Service says it is investigating the deaths of three children whose bodies were found in the boot of a vehicle at Kobilmahigu Zoo in Tamale. A special team has been deployed to support the inquiry, while the vehicle and autopsy findings are expected to assist investigators.
The Northern Regional Police Command says it has begun investigating the deaths of three children whose bodies were found in the boot of a black Hyundai Tucson at Kobilmahigu Zoo in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern Region.
According to a police press release dated 5 October 2026, the children allegedly left home for Islamic classes at about 8am on Sunday, 4 October, but did not return. Their bodies were discovered at about 5am the following day after community search efforts.
Police said the vehicle was found stuck in mud on a road leading to the area. Preliminary checks showed that the driver’s
door and the rear passenger door behind the driver’s seat were open, while the other doors, including the boot, were locked.
The police said the vehicle is believed to belong to a Ghana Immigration Service personnel, who reported that it had been stuck for five days. The person has been arrested and is being taken to Accra to assist the investigation. The arrest is not a conviction.
The Inspector-General of Police has deployed homicide investigators, crime scene experts and intelligence officers to Tamale. The vehicle has been secured for forensic examination, while an autopsy and further investigations are expected to clarify the circumstances of the deaths.
