Bono Regional Police have arrested eight suspects over an alleged assault in Kotokrom, Sunyani West. Police say the attack was reportedly linked to an initiation ritual for internet fraud.
The Bono Regional Police Command says it has arrested eight suspects over an alleged assault and fraudulent activities at Kotokrom in the Sunyani West Municipality of the Bono Region.
According to a police release dated 9 October 2026, the suspects were arrested after a patrol team responded to a distress call at about 4:30 p.m. on 4 October. The team reportedly found a 21-year-old man with multiple marks of assault on his body.
Police identified the suspects as Peter Mbam, 24; Godwin Moses, 26; Humble Oweifah, 18; Osas Ogbemudia, 30; Samuel Aisosa, 22; Ashile Godbess, 24; Alexander Uyuo, 30; and Patrick Romans, 25.
The police said the suspects told investigators they had subjected the man to severe beating as part of an initiation into internet fraud, which they claimed to have undergone themselves.
The release further stated that preliminary investigations indicated the suspects were brought to Ghana by a person identified as Nwachukwu King Augustine, described as their chairman. Police alleged that the group used downloaded images of foreign military personnel to deceive victims online and collect money.
The suspects remain suspects, and the police release did not state whether they had been charged in court. The Bono Regional Police Command commended the public for its intervention and said it would continue collaborating with residents to fight crime.
