Kenya detects third Bundibugyo Ebola case in quarantine, WHO reports
WHO says Kenya’s two latest patients were already in quarantine. Authorities reported no evidence of community transmission in the 16 October update.
Kenya’s third confirmed Bundibugyo Ebola case was detected in quarantine, the World Health Organization said in an update on 16 October.
The second and third patients are relatives of the country’s first patient and were already being monitored when symptoms appeared. The first patient, who had travelled from the Democratic Republic of the Congo, died earlier in October.
What the update establishes
Kenya’s health ministry reported no evidence of community transmission at that update. WHO said contacts continued to be monitored and further cases among quarantined contacts remained possible.
The finding illustrates the importance of detecting illness among known contacts. It is not a claim that future risk is zero, nor a report of an Ebola case in Ghana.
WHO’s update says Kenya remains open and advises against closing borders or restricting trade. Readers travelling should check current official notices rather than infer a travel ban from the case count.
