Nana Akua Addo Domestic Abuse Case: Police Confirm Husband’s Arrest, Court Appearance Delayed
Ghana Police have confirmed the arrest of Harold Norman, husband of fashion personality Nana Akua Addo, following allegations of domestic abuse. His scheduled court appearance was delayed after his lawyer reported a hospital admission. The CID says he will be arraigned upon discharge as investigations continue.
The Ghana Police Service says Harold Norman, husband of Ghanaian fashion personality Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua Addo, will be brought before court following his discharge from hospital, as investigations into allegations of domestic abuse continue.
In an official statement dated October 7, 2026, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) confirmed that Norman had previously been arrested and granted police enquiry bail after his wife filed a complaint alleging physical, emotional and economic abuse.
The statement comes amid growing public attention surrounding videos and images circulating on social media in connection with the couple's domestic dispute.
Police reveal timeline of investigation
According to the CID, Nana Akua Addo submitted a petition to the Director-General of the department on August 20, 2026, alleging that her husband had subjected her to various forms of domestic abuse.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a case involving the couple had already been handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) at the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026.
Following the August petition, police arrested Harold Norman at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations.
A caution statement was subsequently obtained from him, and he was granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29 while investigations continued.
Court appearance delayed over reported hospital admission
Norman was scheduled to appear before court on Wednesday, October 7, but the appearance did not proceed as planned.
According to the police statement, his lawyer informed investigators that Norman had been admitted to hospital and was therefore unable to attend.
DOVVSU investigators subsequently visited the hospital to verify the information provided by his legal representative.
The CID said officers were monitoring the situation to ensure that Norman would be arraigned immediately following his discharge.
The police statement did not disclose the nature of his reported medical condition or specify a new court date.
Husband's lawyers dispute assault allegations
The case has attracted widespread attention following the circulation of videos and photographs reportedly connected to the couple's dispute.
In a separate statement reported on October 6, lawyers representing Harold Duodu Norman rejected allegations that he had assaulted Nana Akua Addo.
His legal team maintained that an injury shown in circulating photographs dated back to an incident in 2021 and disputed the circumstances in which it occurred.
The lawyers presented an alternative account of the incident and urged the public not to draw conclusions from the circulating material while legal proceedings and investigations remain ongoing.
These claims represent the defence's account and have not been independently established.
Lawyers call for protection of children's privacy
Meanwhile, lawyers representing Nana Akua Addo have appealed to media organisations and members of the public to stop circulating videos involving the couple's children.
In a statement dated October 6, her legal representatives said the footage had been shared without her knowledge or consent.
They stressed the importance of protecting the children's privacy and wellbeing while the matter is being handled by the appropriate authorities.
The legal team also indicated that Nana Akua Addo would address the issues publicly at an appropriate time.
Police coordinate welfare support
Beyond the criminal investigation, the CID disclosed that it is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to arrange social welfare services for Nana Akua Addo and the children.
The Ghana Police Service reaffirmed its commitment to investigating domestic violence complaints professionally and fairly while protecting those who report abuse.
The statement was signed by Chief Inspector Francis Kwesi Yeboah, Public Relations Officer of the Criminal Investigations Department.
What happens next?
The immediate development expected in the case is Norman's court appearance following his discharge from hospital.
As of the October 7 police statement, investigators had not announced a new court date or detailed the specific charges that might be brought.
The allegations remain under investigation, and no finding of criminal guilt has been established.
Gh.Today will continue to follow developments in the case as further official information becomes available.
