Good morning, Ghana. Here are four verified developments to begin Friday, 9 October 2026.

Bank of Ghana warns against 20 unauthorised loan apps

The Bank of Ghana has warned the public about 20 mobile loan applications operating without authorisation. The central bank advises borrowers to verify a lender’s regulatory status before sharing personal information or accepting credit. The full list and notice are available from the Bank of Ghana.

National Homeownership Fund mortgage rate falls to 8.4%

The National Homeownership Fund has reduced the interest rate under its own mortgage scheme from 13.5% to 8.4%. The reduction does not apply automatically to every mortgage product in Ghana. Lending under the scheme resumed in September, with repayment periods of up to 20 years.

More than 2,100 road deaths recorded

Police data reported by Graphic Online show that 2,151 people died in 10,157 road crashes across Ghana between January and September. The Motor Traffic and Transport Department describes many of the crashes as preventable and is urging motorists to respect traffic regulations.

ISWAP attacks military base in Borno

In northeastern Nigeria, militants affiliated with Islamic State attacked a military base in Borno State. Nigeria’s military says its forces repelled the assault, although several soldiers were killed. The event remains an important regional security development for West Africa.
