Teachers return to classrooms, Ghana responds to yellow fever, a cybercrime operation rescues 120 people, and Ethiopia-Eritrea tensions rise.

Ghana begins Saturday with schools preparing to reopen, a public-health response under way in the Upper West Region, new details from a major cybercrime operation and rising tension in the Horn of Africa.

Teachers suspend nationwide strike

The Ghana National Association of Teachers, the National Association of Graduate Teachers and the Pre-Tertiary Teachers' Association of Ghana suspended their nationwide strike on Friday. The unions asked members to return to classrooms while negotiations continue.

Citi News reported that the decision followed talks involving the Council of State and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission. MyJoyOnline reported that the parties signed modalities covering promotion-related salary adjustments, allowances and further negotiations. The suspension restores teaching, but the outstanding conditions remain subject to implementation and continued dialogue.

Yellow fever outbreak declared

The Ministry of Health has declared a yellow fever outbreak in parts of the Upper West Region after laboratory confirmation of three cases in Sissala West and Wa West. All three patients died.

The Information Services Department said national and regional public-health emergency operations centres have been activated. Authorities advise anyone experiencing sudden fever, headache, muscle pain, yellowing of the eyes or skin, or unusual bleeding to seek medical care promptly. This report follows the ministry's notice and does not extend the alert beyond the areas it identified.

Cybercrime operation: eight arrested, 120 rescued

Ghana's Cyber Security Authority says Operation Cyber Hunt resulted in eight arrests and the rescue of 120 people believed to have been trafficked and exploited for online fraud. Investigators seized phones, laptops, internet equipment and vehicles, while repatriation arrangements and investigations continue.

The authority says the operation was planned and led within Ghana's legal framework with support from Ghanaian institutions and international partners. Its account disputes how the FBI publicly characterised the operation. GH.today treats that disagreement as unresolved and attributes the operational figures to the Ghanaian authority.

Ethiopia and Eritrea exchange accusations

Reuters reported that Ethiopia told the United Nations that Eritrean forces had entered Ethiopian territory. Eritrea rejected the allegation and accused Ethiopia of aggression. The competing claims have not been independently resolved.

The development adds to regional concern following renewed conflict in northern Ethiopia. With both governments presenting sharply different accounts, the immediate verified fact is the escalation in official accusations and the growing need for diplomacy.
