Proposed mobile passport fee would require parliamentary approval
The proposed charge concerns biometric capture at applicants' preferred locations; no approved fee has been announced.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa says Parliament will be asked to consider a fee for mobile passport application services, which allow biometric capture at an applicant's preferred location.
He outlined the plan during a visit to the Ashanti Regional Passport Application Centre on 14 October, according to Citi News and Starr FM. The proposal concerns the additional convenience of officials travelling to applicants.
The announcement does not establish a new charge that applicants must already pay. No approved amount has been confirmed in the reports reviewed. Figures used as examples during the minister's remarks should not be treated as a published tariff.
Applicants should continue to rely on official passport-service notices for current charges and procedures.
